Uber Expanding With Fast Speed in India, Drive Count More than 10 Lakh

Uber, which provides cab services through the app, has more than 10 lakh drivers in the country. After America and Brazil, India is the third country in which the number of company drivers has crossed 10 lakh. First quarter Uber’s total bookings grew 26 percent year-over-year.

Earlier in February, Khosrowshahi had said that he expected the company’s number of drivers in India to reach 10 lakh. He had said, “India is one of our fastest growing markets in terms of bookings and transactions. Generally, growth is slow in big markets but this is a big market which is growing rapidly.” In the first quarter, Uber’s international revenue increased by 15 percent to approximately $10.13 billion. Uber faces tough competition from Ola in the segment of cab services through app in the country.

The company expects no change in the workforce in the coming quarters. Uber has also taken measures to reduce costs. In the country, Uber has signed a big deal with Tata Motors related to environment friendly transportation. Under this, 25,000 XPRES-T electric vehicles of Tata Motors will be supplied to the company. The company will use these electric sedans in its premium category service. The batteries of XPRES–T are 26 kWh and 25.5 kWh. It can be charged from 0-80 percent using fast charging in 59 minutes and 110 minutes respectively.

These EVs joining Uber’s fleet will be used in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru. The starting price of XPRES-T is Rs 13.04 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Its range is about 315 kilometers. With the help of tools related to artificial intelligence, the estimation of arrival time of Uber’s cabs has been improved. The company plans to improve the user experience by using big data models.
